How well do window air conditioners work?

How well do the air conditioners that you put in your window work? Do they get the room really cold, or just a little cold? Are they worth getting? My room is 165 sq ft.

1. most small window units should be able to cool that size room quite nicely.
2. They work quite well, get one appropriate to the size of the room, getting one too big ensures it will constantly cycle on and off.

4. Window units works great. Yes they will cool the room. Make sure you get the size that is adequate for your room. Window units was all I used until I moved in a house with central air.
5. Yes they are. For a room your size, you will need an 8000 BTU or bigger.
6. I personally like window a/c better than central air. They seem to be more efficient. It cools the room you are in, it doesn't cool the whole apartment. So for sleeping it is great and much more economical than central air-conditioning. Make sure your bed is not in direct line so you don't get a stiff neck. Go ahead and get the right size, and be comfortable when needed.
